Steeped in last week’s fog I was reminded of how much I absolutely love making images this time of year. Sure we have to pretend it’s cold enough to wear sweaters at Christmas making our formal dinner smell much different than the norm; and it is extremely upsetting as a kid to never see real snow in your hometown, but winter on the Gulf Coast has its moments.
In similar weather, I captured this image on the river bank in the Holy Cross neighborhood. I‘m not sure what that seemingly abandoned boat back there is up to; I could certainly find out but, in reality, I’m unconcerned with it. I made this image because it reminded me of something I’d forgotten. I remembered there was once a paddle boat on the Bayou Teche in my home town. I think it was called the Teche Queen, I’m not sure how it got there or how long it stayed but you could board it downtown and take a tour up the bayou.
Selfishly, I made this image for me. The illusive act of remembering, even the insignificant, is rare and feels important. This image is a mirror but it doesn’t have to be just my reflection.
