This week I struggled between selecting a saintly or sinful theme to begin with. The light in this image resonates well with last week’s, so I decided to move forth piously.
I religiously make images every Tuesday morning from 4am - 8am. As you are possibly beginning to notice, I don’t care for my photographs to be crowded with much action… or some would say much interest :). This odd time frame is a major part of my formula, allowing for a nice range of light as well as sleepy undisturbed scenes.
My honey hole as of late is Hwy 90 in New Orleans East; that’s where this gem was found. This scene seems to only be revealed at night while in a dream state. Speeding by for the first time, I was overcome with a feeling of uncertainty, is that real? Then - why is Jesus passively standing behind a junk yard fence, basked in staged light?
For me this image is about balance. It makes me laugh while adding that familiar guilt which directs me to call home. It purposefully blends the absurd, the fantastic, and the familiar in an earnest and reflective way.
