Taking a break from a mirror / a window’s usual format in order to openly create with no restrictions this week. I stretched my processes out over the past few days, pulling out the 8x10 view camera, which just always seems to be an expensive waste of time for me, as well as shooting a few rolls of expired 35mm film (expiration date 1984).
Given what has unfolded over the past week, I felt that the unpredictable, informal nature of 35mm was the appropriate tool to use for capture and have begun a mini portfolio which will serve as a personal journal during these unusual times.
Like most things, creating is not special. It is about devotionally navigating all the small decisions of the day and learning from mistakes. Tom Sachs’s 10 Bullets (or Working To Code), touches on this while explaining how he adds structure to his studio life - something that I’ll certainly need in the upcoming days.
So here is my first image of the Covid-19 Spring; Daido Moriyama inspired, “You wanna get nuts? Come on, let’s get nuts!”
