This week we shine the light on the intent of an image with this lonely street light. This moody image is flush with style and drama but seems to lack obvious substance or a narrative. Does this matter?
I believe images don’t have to say anything particular or definitive to be successful; like music they can lure you in with pure melody. We all have a bucket of familiar songs that we don’t know the lyrics to, still we love or hate them because of the way it makes us feel. We bring our own interpretation, it is personal and draws on experience; it is has the ability to represent certain times. This is felt in visual art as well, obviously it is enlightening to read the liner notes understanding the intent of the artist or the story behind a work but the real power in any art is in its ability to connect.
